Sony FX3 Full-Frame Cinema Camera
The Sony FX3 is a compact, full-frame cinema-line camera built for solo creators, filmmakers, and content creators who need professional video quality in a lightweight body. Drawing from Sony’s cinematic heritage, it combines a large Exmor R sensor with a powerful BIONZ XR processor, delivering outstanding low-light performance, 15+ stops of dynamic range, and exceptional creative control. Designed for mobility, the FX3’s magnesium alloy body features multiple mounting points so you can build rigs without a cage. It also includes a detachable XLR handle with two full-size XLR inputs, enabling professional audio recording. The side-opening vari-angle 3.0-inch touch LCD helps with framing in tricky angles, especially on gimbals or low-angle setups.
In video, the FX3 supports 4K up to 120 fps, 10-bit 4:2:2 internal recording, and 16-bit RAW output over HDMI to external recorders. It offers Sony’s cinematic colour science with S-Cinetone, plus log profiles (S-Log3) and HDR (HLG), giving you flexible grading options. In-body 5-axis image stabilization (“Active” mode) helps achieve steady handheld footage even in motion.
The autofocus system is highly capable: Fast Hybrid AF with wide-area subject tracking, Real-Time Eye AF, and AF transition speed / subject shift sensitivity settings make it usable both for narrative and run-and-gun video. For solo shooters, there are six customizable function buttons, and the top “BIG6” screen layout focuses on key parameters like frame rate, ISO, shutter, and ND filter. Finally, with a built-in fan and efficient heat dissipation system, the FX3 supports uninterrupted 4K/60p recording. Dual media slots (CFexpress Type A + SD) allow flexible, high-speed recording. Export-friendly metadata (focus breathing, LUT, stabilization, camera rotation) is recorded for proxy workflows, especially when using Sony Catalyst software.
